It just means identifying and acknowledging each item then deciding what it is, what it means and what you’re going to do with it. As you have the “IN” component, you must now determine for each note whether it’s actionable, if it isn’t then you delete (trash) it, place it into the Someday/Maybe list or put it into your Reference list for future use.

If there is an actionable task associated to it then you need to clearly specify what the next action will be. You can do this by editing the page title (Ctrl + Shift + T or clicking on it manually) to define the action as a clear, specific and visible action.

Once this is done, move on to triple D. Is it something that can be done in 2 minutes or less? If so, DO IT! Once you finish it, click on the Note and press the Delete key to trash it otherwise move it to the Archives list.
